Algorithms SIG
We are the Algorithms SIG (Special Interest Group), a part of Web Enthusiasts' Club NITK (WEC).
We are passionate about algorithms and theoretical computer science, as well as their applications to real-world problems. Our goal is to build a strong algorithmic and competitive programming culture at NITK by providing students with opportunities to learn, practice, compete, and grow.
What We Do!
1. ICPC at NITK
We help bring the ICPC experience to NITK.
- Help students register and form teams for the ICPC
- Assist with the logistics and coordination of the preliminary round
- Conduct sessions and activities to help students prepare for ICPC
2. TUX Coder: Our Flagship Team Event
TUX Coder is our flagship competitive programming event for NITK students.
- Form a team of 3 participants
- Solve algorithmic problems in an ICPC-style contest
- Compete against the best teams in the college
- Put your problem-solving, teamwork, and coding skills to the test
3. CodeChef Contest
Every year, we host a global CodeChef contest featuring problems designed entirely in-house by the Algorithms SIG members.
This gives our members an opportunity to go beyond solving problems and experience what it takes to design, test, and curate competitive programming problems for a global audience.
4. Host Quantfest Prelims at NITK
We host the Quantfest preliminary round at NITK, giving students an opportunity to test their skills in mathematics, logical reasoning, problem solving, and quantitative aptitude.
NITK is one of the very few non-IIT colleges which are allowed to participate in this competetion, so do participate!
5. Host Codefest Prelims at NITK
We also host the Codefest preliminary round at NITK, providing students with an opportunity to compete in challenging programming and algorithmic problems.
6. Promote Competitive Programming Culture
One of our primary goals is to build and strengthen the competitive programming (CP) culture at NITK.
We do this through:
- Beginner-friendly CP sessions
- Advanced algorithmic topic sessions
- Curated problem sets
- Practice contests
- Contest discussions and upsolving
- Resources and roadmaps for students getting started with CP
- Have a discord server where you can post your doubts and one of our members will help you out with it
Our aim is to make CP more accessible to beginners while helping experienced programmers push their limits.
7. Internal Events & Activities
Our activities don't stop at regular sessions.
We organize a variety of internal events for our members, including:
- Advanced topic sessions
- Lockout tournaments
- Problem-solving sessions
- Internal contests
- Algorithmic discussions
- SIG Dinner
- And much more!
These activities help our members continuously improve their problem-solving, algorithmic thinking, and competitive programming skills.
